Roles and Responsibilities as Piping QC Inspector

  • Performing/Witnessing Material receiving inspection of incoming materials for damages, measuring dimensions, and ensuring that MTC is available according to Purchase order/ requirements.
  • Ensuring satisfactory inspection of materials like pipes, plates, beams, channels, pipe fittings, valves, flanges, gaskets, nuts, and bolts, and making sure that proper preservation is carried out of all the materials.
  • Verifying the proper size, length, thickness, and schedule of all the materials.
  • Verifying the material grade and composition of all the required materials by using the PMI machine.
  • Review the Contractor's method of statements, QC procedures, ITP, and Quality Plan, and assist with establishing acceptable working practices for Construction.
  • Ensure the Inspection & Test Plan of each activity is fulfilled and "hold points" of the company are completed in due time.
  • Reviewing and evaluating GAD drawings and isometric drawings for monitoring piping fabrication and erection.
  • Monitoring all kinds of quality control activities associated with main contractors/clients.
  • Well-conversed with codes, standards, and specifications & review all kinds of engineering documentation, Isometric drawings, Weld maps, and P&ID.
  • Performing inspection of fit-up according to standards, WPS, dimensions, and orientations as per the isometric drawing. Verify the material that is going to be fit-up and match it with the isometric drawing.
  • Maintain the daily fit-up record, prepare the DFR(Daily fit-up report), and review it before submitting to the client.
  • Verify that the materials used in construction follow the job specifications and purchase orders.
  • Inspection of spools & piping support before releasing for painting and installation.
  • Responsible for counter check-in isometric/ piping plan drawing the spools erected in the correct location, orientation, and alignment & fully involved in line check, punch listing & reinstatement.
  • Monitor/Witness -Releasing fabricated spools from the fabrication shop to the work site, reviewing their documentation, and releasing notes of welding and painting.
  • Review test packages (i.e., P&IDs, latest isometric drawing & weld map, line schedule sheet, weld history sheet.
  • Witness/review/monitor & identify hold points on various testing - Hydro Test, Pneumatic Test, Service Test, Leak Test, Valve Test, and Reinforcement Pad Leak Test, etc., as per required design pressure, site procedure, and ITP.
  • Verify calibration certificates of the manifold, pressure relief valve, and pressure gauges before proceeding with hydrotest and maintaining their records.
  • Monitoring Internal cleaning by flushing, Air-blowing, Pigging, and drying.
  • Check the gaskets, supports, and valves before line reinstatement and acceptance as per the latest drawings approved for construction.
  • Issue a punch list on the lines before hydro testing.
  • Inspection of Pressure Test (Hydro/ Pneumatic) according to piping class, their test limits, and required pressure.
  • Verification and clearing of punch list items before commissioning.
  • Prepare & issue required reports and documentation on any discrepancy that arises, such as Technical Query (TQ), Non-Conformance Report (NCR), Concession Request, etc. Then it should be reviewed and controlled.
  • Ensuring and coordinating with subcontractors and third-party agencies for proper implementation of quality and safe construction practices.
  • Participate in periodic and non-periodic QC inspections, QC meetings, and follow up on NCR corrections, and coordinate with the assigned site Welding/Piping/PWHT/PMI Inspector to resolve issues in the respective responsible areas.
  • Confirm repairs, re-testing, and re-inspection by site procedure and specifications.
  • Responsible for setting up, implementing, and overseeing QA/QC documentation.
  • Coordinating with the construction team to close punch list given by the client/contractor during line check and Reinstatements.
  • Raw material inspection with Mill Test Certificate & pipe production inspection of Bends, Ovality, Length, Thickness, Straightness, Sizing, Destructive testing & NDE inspection.
  • Walkthrough participation with client inspectors to make site inspections, surveillance, and ensure proper preservation is followed.
  • Preparation of QA/QC dossier as per client requirements.
  • Conducting TBT (Toolbox Training) with workers (Fitter, Fabricator, Welder, and Helpers) to avoid repeated violations.
  • Coordinate with other departments of client and subcontractors for smooth functioning of QA/QC activities.
  • Arrange client for witnessing at all stages of inspection & final clear box-up certificate.
