Experienced chemistry and physics teacher and science head of department with a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry. Able to handle responsibility and build positive relationships with work colleagues at all levels. Knows how to set goals and achieve them. Able to work and multi-task within a team setting.
Responsible for the leadership, management and administration of the Science Department in four key areas.
1. Strategic direction and development of the Science Department : developing a strategic view, within the context of the School’s Vision, Mission, Values, Strategic Plan, strategic objectives, policies and procedures. and responsible for ensuring Departmental policies and procedures, targets and operations are aligned accordingly.
2. Teaching and learning :
- Responsible for developing and maintaining excellence in teaching in the Department by monitoring, mentoring and regularly appraising staff in accord with the School’s policies and procedures.
- Regularly reviews student learning at individual, class, subject, year and Department levels, in collaboration with the staff, with the aim of identifying strengths and areas for improvement. Subsequently, plans to address areas for improvement are developed, implemented, monitored and reassessed.
- Responsible for curriculum direction in:
• Chemistry, Physics and Biology Years 10-12; and
• Science Years 1-9.
3. Leading and managing staff
ensures that all teaching staff receives induction, leadership, management, mentoring, coaching, professional development and information necessary to sustain staff motivation and high performance.
4. Development and deployment of people and resources
identifies appropriate resources for the Department and ensures that they are used and maintained efficiently, effectively and safely.
• Support the intended educational outcomes of the Mawhiba programme i.e. the development of future leaders, successful learners and creative entrepreneurs
• Setting up demonstrations and assisting and supervising students while they conduct experiments.
• Create a positive learning environment for fostering giftedness and creativity.
