Accomplishments

Establishing and training support for pediatric and adult congenital heart disease service globally. Pediatric cardiac intervention program in Qassim area which is 3 hrs from capital city riyadh and now performing more than 400 pediatric cardiac catheterization cases every year. Participate in launching complete congenital heart disease program in the Eastren province , where initially surgical and cardiac cathertization were started then maintained outreach trip to perform cardiac cauterization for eaten region which no considered as an established referral center for simple congenital heart disease service.

Another center in North of the country - Hail, with outreach adult congenital heart disease support the cardiac center is now an accredited adult cardiology fellow ship program and perform complex congenital heart disease cath interventions. Royal since Abdulaziz bin saad al Saud awarded the cardiac center for congenital heart disease service establishment

Internationally, with outreach program congenital heart disease cardiac catheterization service was established in Bahrain and maintained support for selective cases including percutaneous pulmonary valve training and certification. More global involvement; launching, training and certifying congenital heart disease Physcian in Poland , India to perform advance valve implantation by cath

Ahmed Alomrani, MD Skills and Achievements

  • During my career, I would like to share achievements and adventures that I enjoyed so far:
  • - Under the directive of the Saudi commission of health specialty and as a program director for pediatric cardiology fellowship-KFSHRC, a working group formed from the three established congenital cardiac tertiary centers to structure the first national pediatric cardiology fellowship training program. I wrote the scientific program and was approved by the working group and subsequently elected to chair the newly established scientific committee for two terms.
  • Then I was elected to chair the examination committee for pediatric cardiology for four years, which carries responsibility of building and miniatng questions and cases for the board exams, coordinating external and local examiners for the clinical part. Tasks that were spanning six tertiary training centers across the country, and graduating more than 40 multinational pediatric cardiologists, since it was established 2009.
  • My belief medicine and education are a lifetime journey, supervising and mentoring medical student fulfil such joyful life which I am continuing with our KSAU- student.
  • -I serviced as deputy director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory-KFSHRC. I was part of implementation committee for upgrading the pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratory and was part of the bidding negotiation team. We got the approval for the first hybrid cardiac catheterization laboratory at KFSHRC-RD. That was of a great value to the patients.
  • Bringing such expertise to KACC, I drafted the idea and presented to our director 2015, Later this matured to our new hybrid lab in our center.
  • -Utilizing other services expertise and support goes without a say. Extending collaborative work with our renown Radiology department
  • O Utilizing current radiology equipment for certain congenital cardiac Cath cases
  • O Exchanging expertise and learning skills from our radiologist; I was able to provide PIC-line insertion in our Cath lab for critical pediatric cardiac patients whom clinical condition was critical for transportation
  • O Working as team with our non-invasive radiology and biomedical department to facilitate acquiring Liver-MRI-fibro scan equipment and software upgrade and utilize that for KAMC-RD patient, in particular cardiac patient with right side failure.
  • -Being the first certified American board in pediatric cardiologist to achieve a training in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) coupled with my interventional experience, I was crossed privileged by the hospital administration as an adult cardiologist and established ACHD service. Dr Ziabg support and presence of strong cardiac foundation the service was unique and success.
  • ACHD provided complete and unerupted cardiac care for our patients. Our care span from fetal life, NICU, pediatric tell adult.
  • Not only that but current active collaboration of ACHD-Cardiac service with high-risk OB/GYN can be considered as the nidus for the future specialized services in our new women hospital.
  • In addition, with established ACHD service, I was able to:
  • O Complement already established Stroke service at our hospital-PFO closure.
  • O Provide the cardiac clearance needed for Liver and bone marrow transplant patients with congenital cardiac defects.
  • O Provide cardiac care and support to endocrinology for familial Hyperlipidemia service, both pediatric and adult
  • O Support exciting Pulmonary hypertension service and introduced a new therapy (Oral prostacyclin- Selexipag) to our drug formulary. I strengthen our collaborative network with current pulmonary hypertension centers in the country, share patient referral, provide combined care, and medication shortage coverage
  • O On a national level I was elected to lead the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Working Group (ACHDWG-SHA) under the Saudi heart Association
  • Organizing our annual scientific sessions in SHA annual meeting
  • Organizing SHA activity: Heart Failure- ACHD awareness combined day
  • Inviting international Speakers to SHA- ACHD annual meeting
  • Online educational webinars
  • Networking for patient referrals and consultations
  • Those achievement attracted local and national fellows to do their mandatory ACHD rotation in our center
  • -I was honored to be accepted and trained by the best in the field, pediatric cardiology, adult congenital, pulmonary hypertension and interventional congenital catheterization. My career landed in outstanding cardiac centers in the country, where I was able to utilize clinical knowledge to provide care for patients in Saudi Arabia. As you’ll see from my CV my Research, publications, national and international presence are active, it added strength to our center as referral hub for complex congenital cases. I was:
  • O Invited speaker and Presentation at SHA annual meetings
  • O Invited Speaker for ACHD awareness days (conducted annually for 4 yrs.)
  • O International presentations and Invited speaker:
  • American College of Cardiology annual meetings (2011, 2016, 2023-t)
  • PAH/ACHD International Preceptorship Program 2022, Brompton Hospital, London UK
  • Oman Heart Association
  • Gulf Heart Association
  • Gulf Interventional Society
  • O Writing Chapters for our newly under-publication Book “Manual of Pediatric Cardiac Care” Springer-2023
  • O Grant for SHA-2018 Awarded 100.000SR grant for our IRB project RC18/091/R
  • The skills and experience I have had within the KACC, and external organizations have given me a great appreciation of the diversity of human talents that comes together in an effective organization to provide patient care with quality
