Currently working as a residential support worker.
Previously was acting House Manager within the OOHC residential care space. I have been with Life Without Barriers for just over 4 years now. Not only has LWB helped me develop my skills and knowledge, it has allowed me to gain confidence and experience to trust this role is one to pursue. I have learnt wonders of information alongside amazing colleagues, and been a part of beautiful moments involving our young people in care.
My most recent endeavours include me going away to Canada for 9 months, mostly traveling and taking my well deserved gap year. During this time I worked as an activity specialist there at a summer camp.
After returning back home and back to the residential support role. I believe that It is time I venture out even more and try other companies in a case manager or social worker role.
I am aware that a social work this role is a challenging one. It requires skills that do go beyond a well-established support worker and even house manager. Case management and social workers juggle many elements, some that I am still discovering. I am only wanting to discover and develop more. Knowing that much like the support I have received throughout my career; I can do the same to the support staff and to the young people we care for. That is what I hope to achieve eventually through this role and potential management positions in the future.
