Logistics Supervisor

Fresh Life Initiative Ltd is a fast-growing social venture that builds healthy, prosperous communities by making hygienic sanitation accessible and affordable in Africa's urban informal settlements.

Responsibilities

  • Weekly scheduling of collection of Fresh Life Toilets amongst the 7 collectors and coordinating transportation of fecal and urine waste from the informal settlements to our waste consolidation centers.
  • Tracking the amount of waste removed from the informal settlements to ensure that none of it is disposed to the nearby rivers or open fields through coordination with the fleet supervisor to ensure timely transportation of waste.
  • Ensuring that all the 7 workmen adhere to safety and health protocols while handling the waste and offering trainings on waste collection work instructions.
  • Managing fleet that included handcarts, workhorses, and pick-up trucks
  • Tracking daily the performance of the 7 workmen on various metrics and ensuring that they all have the necessary personal protective equipments. And finally, working with community leaders to address any complaints on waste collection or waste disposal.

Achievements

  • My performance was majorly measured by the amount of human waste that is safely removed from the community and the number of workmen in my team that are either meeting or exceeding expectation in their performance.
  • For the 10 months that I worked as a logistics supervisor, I had safely collected 1080 Metric tons of waste from the informal settlements of Nairobi.
  • In terms of collection adherence, 91% of the 24 collectors had their collection adherence at meet expectations and above.
  • I was able to reduce cases of missed collections by 96% on average for the 10 months while maintaining the cost of collecting a single toilet at the required Ksh 800 – Ksh 900 per month. By ranking, I had met expectations from the month of January to June with the exception of April which made me the best performing Logistics Supervisor in a team of Six.

Sales Supervisor

Responsibilities

  • This role involved; conducting daily check-ins with 6 sales associates, planning sales and marketing events, assigning targets to sales associates, motivating and supporting sales associates to meet their sales targets, holding performance dialogues with sales associates, discussing monthly performance with each sales associate on various metrics and strategizing on how to improve performance, validating data collected by sales associates, helping in the planning of marketing activities, recommending potential markets for expansion to the manager, training and orienting new sales associates in their areas of work.

Achievements

  • For close to two years that I worked as a sales supervisor offering support to my team of sales associates, three out of six of the associates got promoted from SA1 to SA2 due to their consistent stellar performance.
  • In the two years, my team had installed over slightly over 1000 sanitation facilities to individuals in Nairobi slums who could not afford reliable and safe sanitation in their residential places.
  • Because of my stellar leadership skills, I got an opportunity to move to the logistics department to handle even more challenging tasks (horizontal growth).

Sales Associate

Responsibilities

  • This role involved doing market storms and making sales presentations, cold calling, email outreach, prospecting and selling through outbound calls, conducting phone presentations, coordinating sales and marketing events, and upselling sanitation solutions to customers with Fresh Fit solutions.

Achievements

  • In a period of 3 months that I worked as a sales associate, I was able to install over 100 sanitation facilities for people in the informal settlements of Nairobi. These sanitation facilities are life-changing facilities to communities that initially relied on unsafe methods of human waste disposal.
  • Moreover, I had also collected over 1,100 useful leads on residential plots that either had no sanitation facilities or had poor sanitation facilities, these leads are used to date to make follow ups with the plot owners
  • Through my market outreach efforts, so many people bought the low-cost sanitation products and commercialized them to earn a living which was an added advantage to the community. Finally, because of my good performance, I was promoted to the position of a sales supervisor.
