PARTICIPATORY COMMUNITY PRACTICE (PCP) IMPLEMENTATION

  • Community mental health
  • Eastern and western sites 9-week
  • Supervisor: Mary Butler
  • The aim of this community development project was to investigate how to increase knowledge around, and access to NDIS support for individuals living in the community with mental health needs
  • My placement partner and I, after a lengthy community needs analysis, contrived 3 primary resources which addressed knowledge gaps among clinicians working across both sites at Community Mental Health, in order to educate clinicians and facilitate flow of patients through their system through increasing referrals to the NDIS.


ORION PARTNERSHIPS

  • Paediatric student ot service 9-week clinical placement
  • Supervisors: Judith Merit & Michael ?? 4.5 days a week working across two primary schools, and one kindergarten working with children from lower socioeconomic areas and yet to receive supports due to a lack of proper diagnoses or intervention.
  • Independently carried out assessments
  • Planned and facilitated group therapy
  • Managed group dynamics with groups of 4 children
  • Worked closely with speech pathology students in SPOT groups x3 days a week.


BRAIN INJURY REHABILITATION UNIT (BIRU)

  • Inpatient rehabilitation 9-week clinical placement
  • Supervisors: Kristen Martini & Brooke Harris
  • Weeks 1-4 involved close supervision and observation.
  • Weeks 4-9 involved independent facilitation of assessments, and creative freedom to plan and facilitate therapy.
  • Observed home assessments.
  • Carried out initial assessments, cognitive assessments, memory and practical judgment assessments, kitchen assessments, PADL and IADL assessments, and became familiar with the required level and standard of documentation.
