Summary

Currently I am an Energy Market Analyst at Cornwall-insight Australia where I provide consultancy and modelling of the Australian National Energy Market for stakeholders in Australia. My role is in the centre of the net-zero emission transition in Australia in both electricity and gas sectors. I hold a PhD in Electrical Engineering and have more than 7 years of experience in both academia and industry. In addition to 4 years of lectures, workshops, and labs for bachelor and master students, I have published more than 25 international journal and conference papers. I have been bestowed the most high-prestigious academic awards at Flinders University and have been known as an emerging research leader at Flinders University. I also hold the title of SA's Fresh Scientist representing SA's academic research in TV news (Channel 9 and Channel7) and radio. I have been collaborating with CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization) through a top-up scholarship during my PhD, mainly focusing on the optimal integration of electric vehicles into electricity distribution system through sustainable alternatives. I provide operational research, mathematical modeling/simulation, and possible applications for electrical & energy companies by employing advanced simulation software and optimization algorithms. These services include the design and analysis of renewable sources and battery units for residential, distribution, and energy generation sectors.

Innovative Works

  • For the first time, I conducted a new robust optimization model which can characterize recourse binary decision variables after uncertainty realizations using first-order Taylor series (block coordinate decent method). This was not applicable in previous robust optimization models. More info in the following publication (this publication won the 2020 Best HDR Publication Award at Flinders University): M. Aghamohamadi, A. Mahmoudi and M. H. Haque, "Adaptive Robust Recourse-Based Bidding Strategy and Capacity Allocation of PV-WT-BES Owning Prosumers Under Uncertainties," in IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, vol. 57, no. 4, pp. 4170-4186, July-Aug. 2021, doi: 10.1109/TIA.2021.3072603.
  • I developed a new set of power flow equations for distribution system that can be merged into any distribution system study (planning or operation) as the new constraints of the model, instead of solving them separately. This has been done by introducing a new set of indices and a connectivity matrix. More info in the following publication: M. Aghamohamadi, M. H. Haque, A. Mahmoudi and J. K. Ward, "A Novel Directly-solvable Non-iterative Load Flow Model for Radial Distribution System Studies," 2020 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems (PEDES), 2020, pp. 1-6, doi: 10.1109/PEDES49360.2020.9379828.
  • I developed the first and the most comprehensive (to date) bidding strategy model for multi-energy systems to address the cross-effects in multi-energy markets and gain benefits out of these cross effects. More info in the following publication (my most cited publication): M. Aghamohamadi, A. Mahmoudi, "From bidding strategy in smart grid toward integrated bidding strategy in smart multi-energy systems, an adaptive robust solution approach," Energy, Volume 183, 2019, Pages 75-91.
  • I answered a question which was not even asked when I determined the cost of each energy type at the output ports of an energy hub system which was formed after complex energy conversion and storage throughout the energy hub. More info in the following publication (my second most cited publication): M. Aghamohamadi, M. Samadi, I. Rahmati, "Energy generation cost in multi-energy systems; an application to a non-merchant energy hub in supplying price responsive loads," Energy, Volume 161, 2018, Pages 878-891.
