Teaching and Learning
● Plan and prepare well-structured, clearly presented lessons appropriate to the abilities of all students and the syllabus being taught.
● Make sure that the classroom is a stimulating environment that facilitates learning
● Generate enthusiasm for the subject being taught and inspire all students to work to their potential
● Liaise with the Head of Department and Learning Support, where a student may have special educational needs and with the Form Tutor and Head of House if a student is experiencing pastoral difficulties
● Promote high standards of behavior by encouraging a positive, proactive approach to study and build productive relationships with students
● Set homework according to policy and pertinent to the student’s ability and wider work load
● Assess student’s work accurately and regularly, giving thoughtful and meaningful feedback
● Promote high standards of organization
● Promote high standards in the use of English as the common language and help develop English for Academic Progress
● Improve, update and maintain materials and resources as needed
● Complete written assessments and reports according to guidelines and deadlines
● Identify and adopt the most effective active, creative teaching approaches for all students in line with current best practice and the ethos of our school.
● Work with other members of the Faculty to apply consistent standards in the following: curriculum planning and delivery; formative and summative assessment through classwork, homework, and formal examination; standardization and moderation.
● Create a stimulating learning environment, including displays of student work.
● Take learning outside the classroom; identify opportunities and take advantage of resources to contextualize learning locally, regionally, and/or globally.
● Adopt strategies and monitor teaching and learning activities to support individuals with Learning Support or EAL needs.
● Set, communicate, and assess homework/formative work regularly in line with school and department policy.
● Identify and teach study skills/strategies that will develop students' ability to work independently.
● Effectively teach classes, as allocated, to a mixed-ability class (or classes), drawn from a wide range of cultural and educational backgrounds, including students for whom English may not be their first language.
● Monitor, assess and report on learners’ work and progress, in accordance with School policy and procedures on assessment and reporting.
● Contribute to the development of curriculum (the production and ongoing review of units and/or schemes of work), ensuring both diversity and inclusivity are incorporated to student learning experiences.
● Actively contribute to Science Team to enhance student learning opportunities for all students.
