I have been teaching English for more than 15 years. Through all this time, I have consistently developed my teaching, making my teaching more result oriented and effective. I honestly believe that with the passage of time, teaching changes and only those teachers can keep in touch with the spirit of time who develop their teaching methodology accordingly.
In order to improve my teaching skills, I did the Cambridge CELTA course and I am currently enrolled in the Cambridge DELTA course. I have attended many professional development lectures and workshops that have consistently enriched my teaching practice. With the completion of this course, I would be more confident in ascending a step higher to teacher training.
With this wide experience in English language teaching, I have developed some of my core values that direct my teaching practices. First of all, I believe in result oriented and goals based teaching. Secondly, I strongly believe in student autonomy. We are preparing young people who know how to develop and control themselves. I believe this autonomy helps them become better contributors. Thirdly, a teacher is a living model and motivator for the students. Unless teachers are motivators, their role remains deficient. Fourthly, I encourage students' participation in the classroom activities instead of just lecturing. I believe that we prepare our learners not only to face the academic challenges courageously but also prepare them for their social and economic roles in society. This connection between real life and the classroom is very vital. Finally, I believe, given the tremendous expansion of technology, it is very important that we prepare our learners to harness this technology in their learning. They need proper guidance on how to integrate this technology into their learning without wasting their precious time.
I taught intermediate and secondary level classes at secondary schools. I was assigned to develop teaching materials for English classes that were used in addition to the prescribed books. I was also assigned the additional duties of creating tests and assessment sheets for English classes at schools. I was also part of the marking committee that would deal with everything that goes into testing and assessment.
I used the communicative approach in teaching English as a second language. This helped me bring in the necessary element of providing English language speaking environment in the classes that was intended by the administration.
