

Omar was educated and trained as an architect in Damascus University and practiced Architecture for three years. He received his Master with distinction in 2006, and the PhD degree in Landscape Architecture from Edinburgh University, UK, in 2017. His research has focused on environmental behaviour study, Soundscape and Contemporary Memorial Design.
Omar has lectured and taught in architecture design in Damascus University and tutored in landscape design studio in Edinburgh University. In the UK, prior to joining GROSS.MAX. Landscape Architects in 2015, Omar worked in Open Space Research Centre for four years, focusing on inclusive access to outdoor spaces. After he joined GROSS.MAX. Omar was the project landscape architect of various big-scale projects such as Moscow Courtyard and Heerlen Mining Park, Netherlands.
Omar’s extensive working experience both in academia and practice has enabled him to develop a holistic approach to design through combining practice and research, and thinking of architecture, landscape and urbanism as one dialogical, cross-disciplinary and experiential entity.
Currently, Omar is an assistant professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Imam Bin Abdulrahman University.
