Summary

I have 8 years of experience in the field of EHV and UHV overhead transmission lines. By virtue of having a professional association with EnMasse Pvt. Ltd. and MACE Technologies South Africa (local representative) at different positions from Junior Engineer to Assistant Project Manager and now Design Engineer (OHTL) at DAR International for Engineering Consultancy (Alfanar group). I have gained varied experience in Transmission Line Design, Conductor Optimization, Insulator Design Study, Transmission Line Optimization, Transmission Line Route Alignment, Tower Spotting, Base and Detailed Design Review, Project Technical specification Drafting, Specification Review, Costing, BOQ, Vendor Review and Management, Coordination with Saudi Electric Company (SEC), Royal Commission Jubail (RC), NGHC-NEOM, NTDC/WAPDA, Contractors, and Utilities. Supervision of the project and the dynamic management of the whole process for project execution and implementation.

Working as Transmission Line Design Engineer for the Design, Review and Coordination of 380kV, 230kV, 132kV, 115kV & 110kV Overhead Line projects.

  • Preparation of Complete Construction Design for different renowned Contractors of KSA.
  • Generation of Plan and Profile Drawings & Construction structure lists using the latest PLS CADD software.
  • Conductor Selection, Insulator and Hardware Design.
  • Review of manufacturer material design and drawings considering material specification.
  • Review of Tower Fabrication Drawings of Manufacturer.
  • Review and Design validation for Steel structures based on angle of deviation, altitude, tension criteria, wind/weight span limits and loading criteria.
  • Estimation of Complete Bill of Quantities (BOQ) of Transmission Line Components
  • Validation of corridor and route proposed by Saudi Electricity Company considering least environmental and social impact, lesser OHL/ Highway and Railway crossings using Google earth pro, and necessary site visits.
  • Sag & Tension calculation for specified conductor and OPGW, & mid span clearance calculations.
  • Defining clearances and setting design criteria as per Saudi Electricity Company, Aramco and International standards.
  • Generation of structure strength reports, wind weight span analysis, Swing clearance report, Sag- Tension reports, stringing charts, structure lists, and profile sheet for execution at site.
  • Calculation of Tower clearance drawings, Air Gap calculation and ROW calculation.
  • Calculation of Load flow, voltage drop using ETAP software, and calculation of Line parameters using ASPEN software.
  • Development of isometric drawings and 3D modelling for Transmission line under/over crossing scenarios and site requirements.
  • Resolving Day-to-day construction problems at Site and provision of technical solutions
  • Compliance with comments of Client (SEC/RC).

Key Projects done/working as OHTL Design Engineer:

1. Design for Construction of 380KV D/C Quad bundle OHTL from GHUNAN BSP-THUQBAH BSP (19KM) & OPGW Retrofitting for Ghunan Bsp – Qaurrayah-2 Bsp (70km) Eastern region SEC, KSA.

2. Design for Construction of 115KV D/C OHTL for 115kv from hawiyah 230/115kv BSP to jafurah field water injection hub (70KM), Eastern region SEC, KSA.

3. Design for Construction of 380KV D/C OHTL Between HODN PV BSP - TEG BSP (CKT-1&2) (100KM), Western region SEC, KSA.

4. Design for Construction of VSC HVDC 500KV OHTL for COA-WOA interconnection link, portion-1 (245Km), West region SEC, KSA.

5. Design for Construction of 132KV Network connections for Hail-4 BSP 9070, construction of Two 132KV OHL in Hail South Region-SEC, KSA (140Km).

6. Design for EPC raising of existing OHTL (380KV, 230KV & 115KV) in Jubail industrial for future highways, Eastern Region, RC, KSA (11 crossing profiles).

OHTL Design Review:

Working as Transmission Line Design Review Engineer for the Design Review of 380KV, 33KV & 11KV projects in KSA and Gambia.

  • Review of all design basis as per the project specifications and requirements.
  • Review of all design submissions of OHTL including Plan & Profile, Structure list, Sag & Tension, Stringing Charts, OPGW keymap and detail design.
  • Review of manufacturer material design and drawings considering material specification.
  • Review of Tower Fabrication Drawings of Manufacturer.
  • Attended factory assessment test for conductor.
  • Review completion and comment submission within the dedicated timelines on Aconex.
  • Attending and review all site issues in terms of Field Change Requests & Design Change Requests.

Key Projects working as OHTL Design Review Engineer:

1. NEOM Air Products Technical Services, Technical Review of 380 KV OHTLs between Wind farm & Solar Farm to Load SS (330KM), Western Region, NGHC-NEOM.

2. Design review for construction of 33KV/11KV network in Gambia, under NAWEC.

  • Identification and Finalization of Optimized T/Line Route, Preparation of Final digitized route.
  • Plan & Profile Drawings development and drafting using latest PLS-CADD, Auto-CADD, along with construction structure lists & Survey Reports.
  • Route alignment drawings, Supervision during Detailed Survey, Rectifications of Site issues.
  • Conductor, Insulator and hardware selection and reviewing the manufacturer’s data.

  • Material estimation and Transmission Line Bill of Quantities.
  • Material inspection under FAT for conductor, insulators and towers.
  • Bidding document preparation for the contractors and evaluation of received bids.
  • Tender documents development (workplan schedules, company profile, Resumes, firm references) for Transmission Line Design Consultancy & Construction Supervision projects financed by NTDC, ADB, and KFW.

1. OHTL Design for Consultancy Services For 132kV Transmission Line and Grid Stations including Design, Construction, Supervision and Allied Activities under QESCO, Pakistan.

2. OHTL Design and Survey for 500kV Transmission Line Project from K2-K3 Power Plant To 500kV Matiari G/S (OHTL Length=102 Km), NTDC, Pakistan.

3. OHTL Design for 220 kV D/C Twin Bundle Transmission Line Jaranwala Road Faisalabad-Sumundari Road Faisalabad- T.T Singh (OHTL Length=85 Km), NTDC, Pakistan.

4. OHTL Design and survey for DI-Khan to Zhob 220 KV Transmission Line Project.

Worked on Consultancy Services for Pollution Study & Mapping, Corrosion Assessment & Mitigation Study, Audit of Existing Insulation & Insulator String Design, Development Of Efficient Design Of Insulation & Insulator String For Transmission Lines In Pakistan.

  • Project Transmission Lines’ Data collection & Mapping for suitable Pollution study sites all over Pakistan.
  • Pollution severity and corrosion mitigation in line with IEC-TS-60815.
  • Monthly Progress Reports.
  • Approval for the Pollution Site map from NTDC, Pakistan.
  • Development of Pollution Sites with the study equipment including Sample Insulators for ESDD and NSDD measurements, Dust Deposit Gauges for pollution index, pollution map development, Corrosion Monitors (ISOMS, ISOWH units), IPMI units for leakage current monitoring.
  • Sample data collection for ESDD and NSDD measurements for Dust deposit gauges and Leakage current data collection from IPMI systems.
  • Selection of sample insulators (Disc Insulators, Anti-Fog, Aerodynamic, Shed Type, and Polymer long rod) for subject study.
  • Fault data collection of existing Transmission line of 500/220/132KV.
  • Report development based on leakage current data and ESDD, NSDD results.
